Valentine’s Day is creeping up on us, which means lots and lots of cheesy everything. The stores are filled with corny cards & teddy bears that say “I love you”, people will be rushing to find the perfect gift and making reservations at the classiest restaurant they can find on Yelp, and some slackers will be choosing a bouquet on Sunday from the sad scraps that are left over.
Or, you could just stay home and binge watch some great romantic movies while devouring all the sweets with your girlfriends, significant other, or your dogs.
Yeah, that sounds better.
I mean, really, it’s just a day, don’t fret, girl!
For the Romantic Comedy lover
If you want a light-hearted, humorous movie but with a bit of a valuable lesson, here are a few for you! There is an abundance of romantic comedies for you to watch. Some other suggestions are He’s Just Not That Into You, What Women Want, 50 First Dates – the list goes on and on and on. If you really want to hunker down for the day and binge watch some good ole fashion chick “flicks”, though, I definitely recommend Sex and the City!
For the Hopeless Romantic
Warning: Only watch these if you really want to have a good cry, otherwise stay away! If you don’t mind a heart-wrenching movie and some down-right true love, then these movies are perfect for you! You can also watch basically anything adapted from a Nicolas Spark’s novel, that guy knows his love stories, just sayin’.
For the Classic Romantic in you
Sometimes we just need a classic, and yes, The Princess Bride is as classic! These will either make you laugh, make you cry or make you swoon. Whatever you want out of your movie – one of these will do that! There are plenty of other choices as well: Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Gone With the Wind, Sixteen Candles, Say Anything and more!
For the not-your-run-of-the-mill Romantic
Want something a bit more off the beaten path? These are some great choices! While maybe not the most romantic movies, they tell fantastic stories whether they have a happy ending or not! They’re worth venturing out of the typical romance for.
What are some of your favorite romantic movies/chick flicks?
Are you going to give any of my suggestions a try?

Believe it or not, I very (very) rarely watch chick flicks. Like, basically never. That being said, I LOVE 10 Things I Hate About You! I mean, Heath Ledger. Come on. I also really love Edward Scissorhands, although I haven’t seen it in many years. My absolute favorite romantic movie is Dirty Dancing! I could rewatch that one a million times! 😀 Great post!

I actually haven’t seen Dirty Dancing xD Well, I’ve seen the remake, not the original. For some reason I never wanted to see it – but I will someday lol
Okay, I’ll comment on this. 🙂 Mainly because I saw a few movies on here I really like. Sweet home Alabama is fun, love that movie, and Princess Bride and the 2005 P&P as well. All good. I don’t watch a ton of rom coms but there are some I like. Say Anything (loved that movie) and Sixteen Candles too.
Serendipity and Definitely, Maybe are two I really like.
I used to watch a ton of rom coms, but lately it’s been all epic fantasies and Marvel movies thanks to the husband. Not that I’m complaining, they’re great movies, but it made it a bit hard to put this list together with any “new’ romances hahaha xD But I remember Sweet Home Alabama was a favorite of mine when I was younger, I’d watch it all the time! Definitely, Maybe is a great one as well! I don’t think I’ve seen Serendipity, I’ll have to look it up.
Mmm yep, everything Nicholas Sparks related is definitely for the hopeless romantic ahah – I fit into that category, and I love watching those films – they somehow manage to make me cry every time!
Oh god, PS I Love You makes me cry EVERY TIME without fail. I’m a sucker for a good tear jerker haha
YES and this is generic, but The Notebook too! I don’t know how Nicholas Sparks does it…but he does! ITS SORCERY! 😛
Yes! I’ve actually never read any of his books though, besides Safe Haven (I believe it is called that). So I’m sure the books are even better!
These are all great choices.Though for me as far as Classic Romantic it goes Jane Eyre(1996) before Pride and Prejudice. Not that I dislike Pride and Prejudice, of course. Just that Jane Eyre has always had my heart, and I love that version cause it is acted so well by Charlotte Gainsborough and William Hurt.
I have actually never read nor watched Jane Eyre :X I definitely need to read more classics.
