My husband and I have been watching a lot of movies recently and I realized I haven’t talked about or reviewed any of them! So, I figured I’d take today to do some quick-fire reviews for a few of the movies we’ve watched lately. I just picked a few that I thought would be of interest to chat about with you guys
BRIGHTBURN
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?
This essentially takes the Superman story we know and turns it into a horror movie – with plenty of gore. It can be a bit cheesy at times but I think, overall, it is a super entertaining movie. I had a few jumps or times I had to look away from the screen (because I realllly don’t like anything that has to do with damaging the eyes). If you want a unique spin on a superhero origin story, try this one out!

IT: CHAPTER 2
Twenty-seven years after their first encounter with the terrifying Pennywise, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.
This was…okay. I don’t remember everything about the first movie (which I think would be helpful for this one) but I do remember not really liking it. With this one, I was reminded that the story of It just doesn’t intrigue me. While there are some spooky moments, I can’t take most of what happens seriously. At the same time, I think this movie went a little deeper than just a movie about a scary alien-clown-thing. It wasn’t terrible, it’s just not my thing. It also did NOT need to be three hours long, that was excessive!
RATING: ★★☆☆☆
DUMBO
A young elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fly, helps save a struggling circus, but when the circus plans a new venture, Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer.
I surprisingly liked this. I didn’t think I would because I’m not Tim Burton’s biggest fan, but I like what he did with this movie (mostly). The animals don’t talk, it is not a musical, and it is a darker film – and that works. Dumbo is adorable, too. Although I didn’t like a lot of the CGI – it was awful. Overall, I really enjoyed it as far as Disney live-action remakes go.
RATING: ★★★★☆

The new IT is 3 hours long? Geez, that seems excessive. I saw the original adaptation (TV mini-series (in the 90’s) but didn’t have any desire to see this latest version. Sounds like I didn’t miss much.

RIGHT? 3 hours was WAY too long. It could have been a normal length movie lol
Oh nooo! I loved It Chapter 2 so much! I also really enjoyed the first one though. I have really been wanting to watch Brightburn so I’m excited to see that you enjoyed that one!
I mean, at least I really enjoy your candles for it hehe
Oh wow I actually saw one of these! I really enjoyed Dumbo too, and like you, wasn’t sure that I would. I am so not interested in It and you just confirmed that it isn’t for me, as much as I love me some Bill Skarsgård. Also I am right there with you in regard to eye stuff- it’s the ONE thing I can’t handle!
I didn’t even realize that was who played Pennywise haha. AND YES. THE EYES. LEAVE THEM ALONE.
Bright Burn sounds intriguing. I love when we take old tropes and spin them. I can’t do a 3 hour It movie! That is way too long.
You should try Brightburn! Let me know if you end up watching it. Also RRRIIIGHT. Some movies 3 hours makes sense but that was just tooooo long for It.
I watched It chapter 2 because I really enjoyed the first one, and really loved it! It’s not as scary as It, but it was hilarious and have some great disgusting moments
I’m glad you liked it more than I did! I think It just isn’t my jam lol
“Dumbo” is a new favorite Disney film of mine! Loved how the creators brought him to life (so. cute.), and YES! Now you mention it, I too am so glad the animals don’t talk in this one. Don’t think I’d have liked it near as well.
I thought it was super cute! Glad you liked it too!
