My husband and I have been watching a lot of movies and tv shows this year. We’re really trying to catch up on all the ones we fell behind on! Having a toddler makes it difficult to actually sit down and watch anything – but we’ve managed to watch quite a few and there are some gems in there. I’m not going to share every movie we’ve watched right now. That would make the posts way too long – so I’ll just share bite sized reviews of a handful here and there.
For now, here are FOUR of the movies we’ve watched recently that I really enjoyed and would recommend to anyone! There’s an animated movie, a psychological thriller, a satire, and a post-apocalyptic drama. Enjoy!

THE SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE
Where to watch: In theaters
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We took our son to see this in theaters – it was his first time at the big screen! It was so much fun to see the wonder on his face. Before we even got all the way into the theater, he stopped mid walk towards the screen and said “Wow! This is so cool!” I really wish I got that on camera.
Anway, this movie was fantastic. It’s perfect for kids, but it’s also perfect for the parents simply for the nostalgia of it. It’s fun and fast paced. There’s a reason why it did so well opening weekend! I highly recommend it – even if you don’t have kids 😉

THE MENU
Where to watch: Netflix
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m sure you’ve seen this around a lot, but I had to include it. I’ve watched it twice now. It was not what I was expecting at all. It’s funny but dark and really makes you say “what the heck is going on?” in the best way. What starts off as a seemingly innocent and quirky story, quickly takes a turn towards the ridiculous. Remember, this is a satire, so it’s meant to be that way.
Plus, the ending is just superb. I got spoiled on the ending on Twitter, so I won’t tell you – but it was just perfection.

DON’T WORRY DARLING
Where to watch: HBO
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I did not expect to like this one. The only thing I knew about it was all the drama between the actors, like did Harry Styles actually spit on Chris Pine? (I don’t think he did.) Anyway, we gave it a shot.
I was pleasantly surprised. I have now watched it twice as well. But here’s the thing with trying to review this, you really need to go in blind. Don’t even read the description of it. Seriously, don’t. Whoever wrote it, gives way too much away that I feel it takes the intrigue out of the story just a bit. So, just go watch it, and then come back to me and tell me what you think. If you do want a little information, I’ll give you this: View Spoiler »

FINCH
Where to watch: Apple TV+
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I put this one for background noise, but it ended up being such a heartwarming film. It has the post-apocalyptic elements I love, but also brings such a human element to a story about 1 man, a dog, and robots. I tell you, you really start to feel for the robots he creates.
The ending had me in tears.

Have you watched any of these? What were your thoughts?
Do you have any recommendations for me to watch?

I haven’t watched any of these yet but my partner and I have been catching up on older movies that one of us hasn’t seen. We just started The Mummy and I can’t wait for him to see it!
Oh man I feel like I haven’t seen The Mummy in a while, even though it seems like it’s always on tv lol It’s always fun to show other people favorites though. I hope he enjoys it!
Oooh fun! I think I am going to take the kids to Mario next week, so I am VERY excited to hear that you all loved it! And Finch looks good too- Idk how I missed it but I am bad at movies so it tracks, heh. That seems like one I would enjoy! I am kind of intrigued by The Menu, too- maybe I will download that one for the plane! Thanks for the recommendations!
Oh I hope you love the Mario movie! I thought it was so cute. I don’t laugh out loud to movies often, but that one got me! Even my three year old was intrigued the whole time.
I hear ya on falling behind on tv and movies with a toddler! I feel like many shows I used to watch have totally fallen by the wayside! Most of my siblings took their kids to see the Mario movie (Henry is too young), but hopefully we’ll get to see it sometime soon.
Emerson is 3 years old and really enjoyed it! I thought it wouldn’t like the darkness and how loud it was but he was mesmerized. I don’t know how old your son is, but just thought I’d share that just in case it helps!
Haha, he’s only 16 months old! So, probably still a little young – although he watches way too much TV with us and always laughs at inappropriate times…
hahaha I love that!
Okay, I think you’ve convinced me to give Don’t Worry Darling a try. 😃 I’d wanted to watch it, but then heard some bad reviews… but I recently watched and liked My Policeman, which I’d also heard bad reviews for. And we need to give The Menu a try. It sounds like one we’d enjoy!
I really enjoyed it! I actually haven’t seen any reviews on it lol So I didn’t know critics didn’t like it! It’s not SUPER original, but I thought it was good. And Harry Styles is surprisingly great in it! Also, The Menu is definitely worth it. Let me know what you think of those two if you watch them!
I don’t think I would feel nostalgia with Super Mario Bros because I never knew anything about that world, but just as an animated movie, it looks cute! I think I also saw a trailer for The Menu a long time ago. All I remember is thinking “that took a turn”! 😉
You should go watch The Menu because it was actually really good! However, I only saw one trailer for it and I think it was the quick one on Netflix before deciding to watch it.
