This is a first: I read so much recently that I am falling behind on reviews! Who the heck am I? Usually it’s I’m not reading enough so I don’t have reviews to post. Bookworm problems, I guess? 😆 However, since I’m taking so long to write reviews, I’m kind of forgetting my thoughts. I don’t have enough opinions to fill an entire blog post for each individual book below so I decided to just put them all together in one post. It’s a 5 for 1! Yay! Alright, here we go, sparknotes versions of my reviews:
FABLE BY ADRIENNE YOUNG
Goodreads
⭐⭐⭐.5/5
I enjoyed this one but not as much as I hoped (it’s still great, don’t get me wrong!). It had a bit of a slow start and I felt it was fairly predictable. Also, I wish we got more about the world. In my notes while reading, I wrote “it feels all very surface level” and I think that sums up how I felt about the story. There is a sequel, so maybe we’ll get more. With that said, it was a fun read – I really liked Fable (the MC) and I like how much there was about the ship (you could tell Young did her research).
SMALL SPACES BY KATHERINE ARDEN
Goodreads
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
This was a great middle grade horror! Did you know there is a sequel? I didn’t! I definitely am going to pick that one up someday. Small Spaces is a book I will share with my son when he’s old enough because I think it’s just such a great introduction to the horror genre (I grew up on horror movies, my mom was obsessed). It has a great mystery to it and it was simply fun to read.
IMMUNITY BY ERIN BOWMAN
Goodreads
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Yesssss I loved this! As you know, I really enjoyed Contagion and this one was just as good! I love Bowman’s writing because she just dives in and wastes no time. This book is very different from Contagion in that it’s less space zombie and more political – yet she still managed to make it very exciting. I only have one complaint, which isn’t major (it just has to do with a character), but it is a spoiler so…View Spoiler »
THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA BY TJ KLUNE
Goodreads
⭐⭐/5
Guyyyysss. I am so sad I didn’t like this book. I struggled – it took me nearly three weeks to finish it! It’s a character driven story, so the plot lacks, but I also didn’t like the characters sooo… The humor from the children was charming at first, then quickly became repetitive. I also felt that Klune was trying…too hard. Every page had something that could be quoted (you know, put on a bookmark, shared everywhere) which, personally, took away from the message since it was just always so in your face. I’m sorry, I wish I enjoyed it more. I will say that the ending was very sweet, so if you can tolerate Klune’s writing, you’ll probably enjoy this.
THE COMPANION BY KATIE ALENDER
Goodreads
⭐⭐⭐.5/5
This one hooked me, then started to lose me because it was super predictable. About halfway through (maybe less), I knew exactly what was going to happen. Also, it wasn’t super scary – it was more mystery than spooky. With that said, I did enjoy it. I finished it in a day.
Have you read any of these? Do you share any of the same opinions, or did you enjoy any more/less than me? Are any of them on your TBR?

Short reviews are great for catching up! I haven’t read any of these but a bunch are on my TBR
Especially when you forget most of the book lol
You’ve got a few on here that I want to read! I find I have to do some of these mini-reviews myself. Here is one post I did recently!
Lisa Loves Literature
The mini reviews definitely help with catching up lol
I love Small Spaces! I think the sequel is set during the winter so I’m going to pick it up once the weather gets colder 😀
oooohhhh that’s a good idea! I might save it for the winter too 🙂
I really need to post short reviews for the books I read literally MONTHs ago because it would be better than nothing, lol. I agree with you about Immunity and am glad you enjoyed it!
lol I’ve skipped reviewing quite a few books because it took me so long to finally think of writing it that I just did not remember anything >.< oops!
