When this gets published I will be on the road to Northern California with my husband, dog, and parents for a camping trip! Which, if you want to follow along, you can follow me on Instagram! I’ll post as much as I can in my stories, but I also won’t have cell service a lot, so we’ll see how that goes 😆 Anyways, because this week is spent camping, I thought I would do a kind of silly post. Today, I’m going to share all the things you need as a bookworm going camping!
BOOKS!
This one is so obvious – of course, you need books – but do you bring any old books or specific types of books? Time for a little bit of an embarrassing confession. When I go on trips I bring 3 types of books:
-
-
-
-
-
- The books I’ll actually read
- The books that look good in photos
- The books that match the theme of my trip
-

Yeah…it’s usually an excessive amount of books for the few days I’ll be gone/the few times I’ll actually read. You can thank Bookstagram for number 2 & 3. I have a tendency to bring green or outdoorsy looking books when I go camping – think The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings – but I also need to bring books that are pretty against certain backdrops – like on a lake, or with a mountain range behind it. Don’t laugh at me 😆
ALL THE SLEEVES
Ok, so now you have all these books, but you don’t want them getting damaged or dirty. The solution? Book sleeves! I have a small collection going so that every book I’m bringing on my camping trip is protected by a sleeve of its own. There is dirt in nature, friends – dirt & books do not get along. Protect the babies!
A little promo: I am a rep for Enchanted Extras. She makes great quality sleeves that are all amazing sizes (I can fit fairly big books in her Medium AND Small sleeves). If you want to buy anything from her, you can use my code MOLLY15 to save 15%!
Here are two of her sleeves:
A CAMERA
For all those bookstagram photo opportunities! It’s a win-win, really. You’ll get some photos with gorgeous backgrounds and scenery while also NOT falling behind on your photo taking. I mean, you can also just simply take photos of the pretty scenery, but what is a photo without a book in it somewhere?
Here’s me trying to be a photographer the last time I went camping (with an extra dark editing style). Oh, look, two books that match my criteria from above 😉
A BOOKISH MUG
Coffee is a necessity, but it’s not the same if it isn’t in one of your own fandom/bookish mugs. You better believe I brought at least one of my Harry Potter camping mugs from Owlcrate with me. You also better believe that I will be taking photos of it for the exact same reason as above.
What bookish items do you take with you on trips?

I love that you take certain books with you just because they’re IG-worthy. LOL You get the True Bookworm Award of the Day. 🙂 Thanks for mentioning Enchanting Extras. The last thing I need is more book sleeves… but I also can’t help myself. 🙂 Hope you’re having a great time, Molly!
hahah I have a nice collection of book sleeves going now. I remember the day when I thought they were kind of silly but now I NEED THEM lol
I totally get having to pack a ridiculous amount of books when going on a trip! I KNOW that I’m not going to read much (if at all), but I have to take books to take pictures of, and books to read in case I have any down time. I never thought to take a themed mug with me lol, I think I’d be too worried that I’d accidentally break it somehow.
I was definitely worried about my mug but the rental car we had had the perfect spot for it to keep it safe lol
Have a great time! I’ve never packed books just for potential IG pictures, but honestly, it’s a good idea.
Thank you! We had fun 🙂
Oh my gosh, I hope you have a good time/trip and really, really enjoy it! Loooove that you do this (taking books places because PHOTOGENIC REASONS AND THINGS.) too! I seem to be doing it more and more, no matter the setting. I haven’t been camping in ages but honestly now I want to.
Thanks! We had a great time! I brought too many books with me and didn’t even open one of them hahahah oops
Aw this is really fun! My camping essentials would be… cancelling and booking a hotel, but I LOVE your pictures so much! It’s kind of the perfect backdrop! I don’t really take books on trips, I usually just bring my Kindle because it’s lighter and easier, but for you it’s totally worth it because pretty pictures!
hahahah my husband would be right there with you. But we did have trailers! So at least we didn’t sleep on the floor. It was still super cold thought haha
I love that you bring books camping so you can take pics. How fun!! 🙂
I didn’t end up taking any THIS time lol but I did have like 5-6 books with me PLANNING on taking photos. Oops lol
