The month of August is an ambitious one…but I’m feeling good. I have a new motivation and with a new month, it’s time to put that energy into the bookish aspects of my life! Soo…I’ve decided to participate in THREE readathons & a book club! Eeek. I’ve decided to participate in the Disney Read-A-Thon, Tropeical-Thon, and the N.E.W.T.s. Plus an Instagram hosted book club called the Read Rovers.
DISNEY READATHON
With this readathon, you choose a team, have to read books within that team’s prompts in order. Once finished with your teams prompts, you can move through the map to earn more points for your team. I’ve joined Team The Little Mermaid! Here are the books I am reading for my team:
- Ariel (a singer MC): I chose the short story When Water Sang Fire within The Language of Thorns. It was really hard for me to find a book to work for this one that I actually wanted to read, so this works perfect – it’s short!
- Flounder (a great friendship): I chose Geekerella because Google/Goodreads told me it had a good friendship in it 😆
- Prince Eric (favorite author): This one was tough but I decided to give some love to Erin Bowman and read Contagion! I’ve been meaning to read this one for a while.
- Ursula (character changes appearance): I chose Nimona for obvious reasons (shapeshifter in the synopsis) and also I’ve had it as an eBook for years and it’s about time I get to it.
- Sebastion (group book): I wasn’t fond of the group book or replacement options, so I did some research to find a similar book (containing mermaids) and chose Our Bloody Pearl. I’ve never heard of it before so I’m actually super excited for it! If you haven’t heard of it, this is a list of highlights from the authors tumblr:
-
-
- Fluff and adventure
- Disabled, nonbinary siren protagonist who has all the sass
- Asexual romance with the smollest freckly pirate love interest
- Steampunk vibes in a Caribbean setting
-
-
After completing those books, in order, I can move on to other teams’ prompts. I did not make a TBR for those so let’s hope my TBR for the other readathons fit!
TROPE-ICAL READATHON
I joined the Horror/Thriller/Mystery team only because it was the only team that I already owned the group book for (hehe).
- Dark Secret: I chose Small Spaces. It seems to fit the prompt – but also I borrowed it from a friend a while back and I’d like to return it to her. I don’t want to be that person.
- Disappearance: The Man with the Twisted Lip is a super short read available on Serial Reader…it also fits the one of the prompts for Magical Readathon (book that starts with M).
- Group Book: I’m currently listening to Mexican Gothic but I’m not very far so I’m going to be attempting to finish in in August. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it!
MAGICAL READATHON (OWLs & NEWTs)
So I never officially finished the OWLs but I want to do the NEWTs since it’s the last year – so here I am combining both. Oops. I’m not going to go through all of the challenges and book choices because…it’s a lot. However, most of the books above satisfy a prompt for one of these. In addition to those, I’ll be reading the following for the rest of the prompts:
- Thieves’ Paradise is a Warhammer Novella. I reviewed on a little bit ago called Low Lives and really enjoyed it, so I hope this one is good as well!
- I didn’t realize I had two Arden books on my list! I’ve been wanting to read The Bear and the Nightingale for a while. I’ll be listening to this on audio once I finish Mexican Gothic.
- Technically, I’ve already read Saga Volume 1 but I remember very little except for some weird art and that I actually enjoyed the story. So, I’m going to reread it.
- I also have to read a book with a beak on the cover but I haven’t decided between The Merciful Crow or Serpent & Dover – which one should I read?
THE READ ROVERS BOOK CLUB
I found this book club from a friend and it’s actually local! However, it is an online book club so anyone can join! It includes a chat at the end of the month with the author. Also, it seems to choose books that are out of my comfort zone (aka, not YA lol). So I’m excited!
August’s book is In Sight of the Mountain which is an historical fiction about a girl who wants to reach the summit of Mount Rainier. It claims to have adventure while also addressing the issues of “colonialism, class, and women’s far-too-narrow options.”
PHEW. That was a lot. Do you see any you’ve read or want to read? What will you be reading in August? Are you participating in any readathons?

This is definitely ambitious. Hope you enjoy them all!
hehe thank you!
Good luck for the challenges. 🙂 I decided to join the Trope-ical Readathon too and I’m part of the science fiction/fantasy team — however, I haven’t put together a TBR pile. I hope you enjoy Mexican Gothic as much as I did. It’s such a creepy book.
Happy readings!

Hope you enjoy the read-a-thon. I see Geekerella up there. I loved that book so much. It is all the fluffy goodness.
I’m starting that one now! I definitely need some fluffy goodness right now lol
Hopefully all those readathons will help you get through that TBR. Geekerella looks so cute!
Fingers crossed! So far I’ve finished 4 reads and almost done with Mexican Gothic. Not bad so far lol

Good luck with these readathons and I hope you can get through all these books in August. One Bloody pearl sounds interesting, never heard of that one before, but it sounds good. I’ve heard good things about Nimona and Saga. I hope you’ll enjoy all those books!
Thank you! And it does! I hadn’t heard of it before this either. And the cover is super pretty too 🙂

Ahh yes >.< I'm making decent progress so far but I still have a few books left! Happy reading!
I liked Serpent and Dove MUCH more than The Merciful Crow, if that helps! Also this really is ambitious! I am feeling the same this month because I REALLY overbooked my September review books, so, whoopsie! Good luck!
Oh good to know! I keep going back and forth between those two ALL the time to the point I just don’t read either lol >.<
