The Positives of Blogging

This is another wonderful prompt brought to you by Rachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf as part of her Get Up Offa That Slump: A Blogging Extravaganza feature!

Today’s prompt: What makes blogging worth it? Why is it so fun and fantastic and you don’t want to let it go? Why do you love it?

The Positives of Blogging

I could go on and on about some of the little things I love about blogging. Sure, it isn’t all rainbows and sunshine all the time, but the things I love about it far outweigh the negatives. When I sit and look at the things I love, I realize it all boils down to just two things. Two things that really round out the reason I started, am continuing and see no end to my blog.

ONE. It’s an outlet to Discuss and Discover.

Before I started my Bookstagram, I didn’t have many opportunities to talk about my favorite things. Really, anything. My favorite shows, books, movies or even just my thoughts after I read a book. But I wanted a larger platform than Instagram. Because I love talking about my favorite things and a novel-length caption on an Instagram photo isn’t exactly practical. Enter my blog.

adventure

Really, that’s what it felt like. It was new territory for me, to express my thoughts and opinions on a platform open to anyone. It was an adventure for me. Not only is my blog a place where I can vent, rant or talk about all my interests, it’s become a great place to discover new favorites. I am now more in tune to book releases, book signings in my area, new shows and films. It’s just become such a great outlet to keep up-to-date with the latest and greatest, and all the little things in between.

Two. YOU!

Before I started blogging:
nofriendsOkay, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but before blogging, I didn’t have many friends that were interested in the same things as me. Doctor Who? No one. Books? No one. Video games? Well, my husband, but no one else. I’m sure you can see what I’m trying to say. It’s not fun to be into all these things and have no one to talk to about them.

But now? I feel like this:
gatsbygifBecause I have all of you! I wouldn’t be doing this without you. We share similar interests, are extremely open to discovering new things, and everyone has just been so welcoming. I’ve never felt judged or made fun of by any of you. So, even though I started with zero friends interested in the same things as me, I know have many! That is the best thing in the world about blogging.

letsdiscuss

What do you love about blogging?
If you don’t have a blog, would you start one? Or, what do you love about reading blogs?

So, so true! I totally agree with you. I don’t have anybody in my life with whomi can talk about books but since I started blogging, everything has been different, I get to talk about various books and fangirl with a bunch of people. The blogging community is so great, I simply love it!

Exactly! No one I know reads or reads the same books as me. So it’s super difficult to connect with people. But now, with the blogging and bookstagram community, so many doors have opened for me when it comes to making new friendships. It’s great!

  • Reply Lola 03/30/2016 at 3:15 pm

The bookish community and friendships I’ve built are definitely one of the reasons I blog. To connect with other who love to read as well. I think it’s great the blogging community is so accepting and doesn’t judge you. And yes to have an outlet, to write and share my thought with the world. It’s just so great to have a place where you can talk about everything you want and share your thoughts and opinions about books and other things you want to. And blogging is fun!

    • Reply Molly 03/30/2016 at 3:48 pm

YES to all of that. I really don’t think anyone else thinks differently about blogging. It’s a wonderful community. Even if it can become stressful, the friends you make make it worth it.

Oh my gosh, those gifs actually accurately explain what coming into book blogging is like xD It’s crazy how fun everything can be, and how much connection I feel to everyone here in the community – especially you, Molly, when we have those weird conversations, where we somehow talk about what’s coming up next in our blogs, without knowing it! xD

    • Reply Molly 03/31/2016 at 4:12 pm

haha right? That last Gatsby one – I was like YES. PERFECT. xD haha and YES! A perfect example is you! We visit each other’s blogs, interact, have great conversations & are supportive. That’s what this whole blogging business is about, 100% <3

      • Reply Geraldine @ Corralling Books 03/31/2016 at 6:05 pm

        Aw that’s so sweet, Molly!
Yeah, that’s actually what blogging is like – you’re there for other people, people are there for you, you talk, make awesome friendships, and just feel feels together xD

        • Reply Molly 04/02/2016 at 9:29 am

<3 Really, there's nothing else to add because that sums it up perfectly!

  • Reply Kristen Burns 03/30/2016 at 6:45 pm

Yes! I completely agree. These are also the reasons I love blogging. I didn’t have anyone to discuss the things I love with either since my friends and family aren’t into books. And now I feel like I’m legitimately part of a community, and it feels awesome being able to talk about these things and knowing there are other people who get me! When I started, I didn’t realize it’d be like this, but now I’d miss everyone if I were to stop.

    • Reply Molly 03/31/2016 at 4:13 pm

Same! My husband reads, not as much as me but also VERY different things. So, it’s just not the same as being able to fangirl over books I read with other people that read the same things! When I first started I thought no one was going to read my blog, that I would be posting to a ghost town lol So glad that is NOT what happened 😀

  • Reply Annika 03/30/2016 at 7:10 pm

YEEES! Awesome reasons. I’m so glad for this prompt because it’s such a good way to remind ourselves about how much we love doing what we do. And I love what you said about keeping up to date with everything! If I didn’t blog I’d have no idea about new releases, at all!

Also: Doctor Who high five! And I LOVE the GIFs too. I’ve definitely heard Gollum in my ear saying that same thing! But he’s gone now thanks to you and all the others around here who are just bursting with awesomeness ❤

    • Reply Molly 03/31/2016 at 4:22 pm

Oh boy, I NEVER knew when books were coming out before blogging. Even when I just had a bookstagram, I was still lost lol But having a blog has kind of forced me to pay attention to it – especially with WOW and TTT memes!

YES! I love Doctor Who – my friends don’t see the appeal in it lol xD So I’m all alone with that interest over here. But yes, this community has definitely made Gollum stfu ;P

      • Reply Annika 04/01/2016 at 1:23 am

YES! I love WOW posts so much – they’re so dangerous for my TBR :’)

But Doctor Who is so fun?! My bestie doesn’t like it either 😉 And the Christmas special for Doctor Who kind of killed me a little. It was so sweet and so sad and so sweet!
Haha! Good! Gollum is mean 😉

        • Reply Molly 04/02/2016 at 9:31 am

I’m actually a little behind on Doctor Who. I’m still in the Matt Smith seasons. I miss David Tennant 🙁

          • Annika 04/02/2016 at 10:17 am

What series are you on now?! I need to know. Haha I know, David Tennant :'( <3 But just wait until you get to the 50th anniversary episode! You'll love it! You have so many awesome episodes headed your way 😛

          • Molly 04/02/2016 at 10:22 am

Ah, I’d have to go on Netflix to find out but I’m already passed with Matt Smith pretends he’s dead? If I’m remembering correctly.

          • Annika 04/02/2016 at 10:46 am

Okay, so kind of still on Amy and Rory. I love Amy and Rory and River. And I learned to love Matt Smith too. I hope you do as well 😛
I actually saw Arthur Darvill (who plays Rory) in a musical last year. He was wonderful!

          • Molly 04/04/2016 at 6:44 am

I don’t like River for some reason. I just kind of want her to go away 😡 Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up someday soon lol I need to stop STARTING new shows before I’ve finished my old ones!

          • Annika 04/04/2016 at 3:29 pm

Noooo I love River (she’s an archaeologist!)! Do you know all of her back story? You know she will be gone eventually, because Silence in the Library :'(
At least you have until late September or October before any new episodes come out 😉

          • Molly 04/05/2016 at 5:56 am

Ok, wait, maybe I’ve already seen when she’s gone? UGH I NEED TO CHECK NETFLIX SO WE CAN HAVE A PROPER CONVERSATION ABOUT THIS. xD I’ll look today I PROMISE!

          • Annika 04/06/2016 at 1:28 pm

She’s complicated to talk about because it’s… y’know, timey-wimey. *ahem* You’ll definitely have to let me know when you get around to it! hahaha

          • Molly 04/06/2016 at 5:57 pm

            WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

I’M DEAD. MY LIFE IS OVER. THERE IS NO REASON TO LIVE ANYMORE.
DOCTOR WHO IS NOT ON NETFLIX ANYMORE.
            I REPEAT.
DOCTOR WHO. IS. NOT. ON. NETFLIX.

            I WANT TO CRY sdklfjskdjfeoje93209p3309efsd;flkEKR#WPO#KD,

          • Annika 04/07/2016 at 10:55 am

NO! NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOO! That’s awful! How dare they?!
WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO, MOLLY?! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO?!
            I feel your pain.

          • Molly 04/08/2016 at 2:42 pm

I guess BBC is going to be coming out with their own streaming service, but there is no news on it so far. That still sucks though because that’s another thing to pay monthly for!

  • Reply Tasia @ LaliPop Blog 03/31/2016 at 1:12 am

I’ve gotta agree with you–my favorite thing about blogging is the people! Isn’t it crazy how people we may have never met IRL can actually understand us better than people we see every day? The friendships are real!

    • Reply Molly 03/31/2016 at 4:23 pm

Heck yes they’re real! Sometimes I’ll see things while I’m shopping & be like “OMG, so-and-so would love this, I should send it to them!” LOL So yes, they’re real! Even if we all live so far apart 😀

I love this post so much! I really love how blogging made me discover so many great books, and so many great friends, too. I’m so happy to have found people with who I can share my love for books, or scream about fictional characters and not feel like I’m crazy.

    • Reply Molly 03/31/2016 at 4:25 pm

Yes! Blogging has not been kind to my wallet but it has definitely introduced me to some amazing people. That’s worth it 🙂

  • Reply Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog 03/31/2016 at 3:49 am

Yup pretty much the same! I really had no one to talk about my books with. Or my TV shows. Now it is so nice to have blogging buddies to chat with and share my thoughts. It really makes me happy to have a place to do all that. I forget what it was like before I started blogging!! Great post!

    • Reply Molly 03/31/2016 at 4:27 pm

OMG yes to being able to talk about my TV shows. I mean, I had no one to talk about my books or shows with – now that I do, it’s wonderful! I’m so happy I can vent about the latest episode or plot twist in a book now xD I’ve only been blogging for a short time, so I still remember xD It wasn’t fun to NEED to complain or obsess over something and there be no one there D: haha

  • Reply Cassidy @ Quartzfeather 04/03/2016 at 4:56 pm

Before blogging I would only stumble across new fav authors if I happened to pick up their book in the library. Now I’m basically tripping over them. Also before blogging I tended to start reading series after they finished or they only had one book left, but these days I’m reading a lot of newer books.

    • Reply Molly 04/04/2016 at 7:10 am

HAHA right? It’s like a never-ending supply of books. And yeah, currently I’m trying to catch up on some of the popular series that everyone has already read. But there are plenty of new series coming out that I can start along with everyone else. That’s a good feeling!
