I used to participate in Top Ten Tuesday when I first started blogging and it was a wonderful way to meet fellow bloggers! I thought with coming back from a hiatus, and a bit of a lack of inspiration on my part, participating again would be a great idea. So, every Tuesday (if the topic interests me) I’ll be sharing a Top Ten Tuesday post. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl! Make sure to check out her page explaining everything you need to know, including future topics.
Today’s topic is a FREEBIE! After the previous TTT about the books releasing in the last half of the year, I realized there are a lot of sequels coming out of which I have not read the first in the series yet. So, today I’m sharing a list of just that: All the sequels coming out and the first book I have yet to read (I’ll think of a catchier title later 😆 ).
Oh, but some of these aren’t technically a direct sequel but may be the 3rd or 4th in a series. But yes, I am that far behind.
Note: I’ll only be sharing the blurb for the first book as to avoid spoilers for you (and myself). Also, the Goodreads link will take you to the series page with all the books of the series.

THE DARKENING → THE LIGHTSTRUCK
by SUNYA MARA
Vesper Vale is the daughter of revolutionaries. Failed revolutionaries. When her mother was caught by the queen’s soldiers, they gave her a choice: death by the hangman’s axe, or death by the Storm that surrounds the city and curses anyone it touches. She chose the Storm. And when the queen’s soldiers–led by a paranoid prince–catch up to Vesper’s father after twelve years on the run, Vesper will do whatever it takes to save him from sharing that fate.
ONLY A MONSTER → NEVER A HERO
by VANESSA LEN
It should have been the perfect summer. Sent to stay with her late mother’s eccentric family in London, sixteen-year-old Joan is determined to enjoy herself. She loves her nerdy job at the historic Holland House, and when her super cute co-worker Nick asks her on a date, it feels like everything is falling into place. But she soon learns the truth. Her family aren’t just eccentric: they’re monsters, with terrifying, hidden powers. And Nick isn’t just a cute boy: he’s a legendary monster slayer, who will do anything to bring them down. As she battles Nick, Joan is forced to work with the beautiful and ruthless Aaron Oliver, heir to a monster family that hates her own. She’ll have to embrace her own monstrousness if she is to save herself, and her family. Because in this story . . . she is not the hero.
THE INHERITANCE GAMES → THE BROTHERS HAWTHORNE
by JENNIFER LYNN BARNES
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why — or even who Tobias Hawthorne is.
To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch — and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a conwoman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.
DAUGHTER OF SPARTA → STORM OF OLYMPUS
by CLAIRE M. ANDREWS
Seventeen-year-old Daphne has spent her entire life honing her body and mind into that of a warrior, hoping to be accepted by the unyielding people of ancient Sparta. But an unexpected encounter with the goddess Artemis—who holds Daphne’s brother’s fate in her hands—upends the life she’s worked so hard to build. Nine mysterious items have been stolen from Mount Olympus, and if Daphne cannot find them, the gods’ waning powers will fade away, the mortal world will descend into chaos, and her brother’s life will be forfeit. Guided by Artemis’s twin—the handsome and entirely-too-self-assured god Apollo—Daphne’s journey will take her from the labyrinth of the Minotaur to the riddle-spinning Sphinx of Thebes, team her up with mythological legends such as Theseus and Hippolyta of the Amazons, and pit her against the gods themselves.
THE SCARLET VEIL
by SHELBY MAHURIN
~ Potential spoilers in the blurb for those who have not read Serpent & Dove ~
Six months have passed since Célie took her sacred vows and joined the ranks of the Chasseurs as their first huntswoman. With her fiancé, Jean Luc, as captain, she is determined to find her foothold in her new role and help protect Belterra. But whispers from her past still haunt her, and a new evil is rising—one that Célie herself must vanquish, unless she falls prey to the darkness.
Note: I know this isn’t part of the original trilogy, but it will bother me if I read this one before finishing the other. I absolutely loved Serpent & Dove so I hope to finish the trilogy someday 😆
BLOOD AND MOONLIGHT → SILENCE AND SHADOW
by ERIN BEATY
Rising above the city of Collis is the holy Sanctum. And watching over its spires is Catrin, an orphan girl with unique skills—for she alone can spot the building’s flaws in construction before they turn deadly.
But when Catrin witnesses a murderer escaping the scene of his crime, she’s pulled into the web of a dangerous man who will definitely strike again. Assigned to capture the culprit is the mysterious, brilliant, and enigmatic Simon, whose insights into the mind of a killer are frighteningly accurate.
As the grisly crimes continue, Catrin finds herself caught between murderer and detective while hiding her own secret—a supernatural sight granted by the moon, destined to make her an outcast, and the only thing that might save her and those she loves from becoming the next victims…
ONCE UPON A BROKEN HEART → A CURSE FOR TRUE LOVE
by STEPHANIE GARBER
For as long as she can remember, Evangeline Fox has believed in true love and happy endings… until she learns that the love of her life will marry another. Desperate to stop the wedding and to heal her wounded heart, Evangeline strikes a deal with the charismatic but wicked Prince of Hearts. In exchange for his help, he asks for three kisses, to be given at the time and place of his choosing. But after Evangeline’s first promised kiss, she learns that bargaining with an immortal is a dangerous game—and that the Prince of Hearts wants far more from her than she’d pledged. He has plans for Evangeline, plans that will either end in the greatest happily ever after or the most exquisite tragedy…
LIGHTLARK → NIGHTBANE
by ALEX ASTER
Welcome to the Centennial.
Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the Centennial, a deadly game that only the rulers of six realms are invited to play. The invitation is a summons—a call to embrace victory and ruin, baubles and blood. The Centennial offers the six rulers one final chance to break the curses that have plagued their realms for centuries. Each ruler has something to hide. Each realm’s curse is uniquely wicked. To destroy the curses, one ruler must die.
Isla Crown is the young ruler of Wildling—a realm of temptresses cursed to kill anyone they fall in love with. They are feared and despised, and are counting on Isla to end their suffering by succeeding at the Centennial.
To survive, Isla must lie, cheat, and betray…even as love complicates everything.
THE LUMINARIES → THE HUNTING MOON
by SUSAN DENNARD
Hemlock Falls isn’t like other towns. You won’t find it on a map, your phone won’t work here, and the forest outside town might just kill you.
Winnie Wednesday wants nothing more than to join the Luminaries, the ancient order that protects Winnie’s town—and the rest of humanity—from the monsters and nightmares that rise in the forest of Hemlock Falls every night. Ever since her father was exposed as a witch and a traitor, Winnie and her family have been shunned. But on her sixteenth birthday, she can take the deadly Luminary hunter trials and prove herself true and loyal—and restore her family’s good name. Or die trying. But in order to survive, Winnie enlists the help of the one person who can help her train: Jay Friday, resident bad boy and Winnie’s ex-best friend. While Jay might be the most promising new hunter in Hemlock Falls, he also seems to know more about the nightmares of the forest than he should. Together, he and Winnie will discover a danger lurking in the forest no one in Hemlock Falls is prepared for.
Not all monsters can be slain, and not all nightmares are confined to the dark.
THE WAY I USED TO BE → THE WAY I AM NOW
by AMBER SMITH
All Eden wants is to rewind the clock. To live that day again. She would do everything differently. Not laugh at his jokes or ignore the way he was looking at her that night. And she would definitely lock her bedroom door. But Eden can’t turn back time. So she buries the truth, along with the girl she used to be. She pretends she doesn’t need friends, doesn’t need love, doesn’t need justice. But as her world unravels, one thing becomes clear: the only person who can save Eden … is Eden.
Note: I have read the first book, The Way I Used to Be and it was wonderful. However, I read and reviewed it in 2016 so I don’t fully remember the entire thing. I’d like to reread it before reading the second book.
Have you read any of these? Which would you recommend? Do you have any books you want to read before the sequel (or further) comes out?

I hope you love all of them!
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
I love reading books in a series, but it is SOOOO easy to get behind in them. I keep a spreadsheet so I know what I have/haven’t read. It’s the only way I can keep track. Ha ha.
Happy TTT!

Dang, way more organized than me! I didn’t even realize half the books in this list were even coming out this year lol I need to catch up!
This is a great list! I haven’t started any of these series yet either, but many are on my TBR so you’re not alone 🙂 Also wow, some of these covers do look so pretty together!
So many pretty covers!
The Way I Used to Be is so good! I can’t wait for the sequel. I just requested it on NetGalley today.
Here’s my TTT post.
I remember loving it! Hope you get the arc!
I’ve heard good things about The Luminaries! I might have to add that to my TBR. Great use of the freebie! I admit I’m a little intimidated by series but I’m itching to get into one.
I tend to avoid them so I don’t fall behind like this. So it’s a vicious cycle lol
Ah, this post reminds me of all the books I still need to get to. I’m really interested in picking up The Darkening. It sounds like my kind of read.
It’s right up my alley as well!
I feel seen with this topic! I’m terrible at keeping up with series! Usually I do read the first one though and then its the rest I lose track of.
YES I am absolutely TERRIBLE with keeping up with series. I tend to gravitate towards standalones so I don’t have to feel like a failure if I don’t keep up.
I haven’t read any of these, but there are some gorgeous-looking books here! Hope you enjoy. I know I get excited whenever books I love have sequels (or next in series) coming out
So pretty!
I’ve read the Stephanie Garber series and can’t wait for the next book to come out!
Ahh I NEED IT
I hope you enjoy all of these! I have both Once Upon A Broken Heart and Ballad of Never After but I haven’t read either yet, I figure I’ll wait for the last book and then just read them once they’re all out since I’ve now waited this long before getting into the first book. I read The Luminaries earlier in the year and I was only so-so about it so I don’t know if I’m actually going to read The Hunting Moon or not.
My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2023/07/11/top-ten-tuesday-428/
I’ve seen mixed review for The Luminaries but MY GOODNESS Those covers hahah
They are fab covers!
I didn’t know about The Brothers Hawthorn D: I need it
That series sounds so good and I have only ever seen good things about it!
Good luck! I’m really bad at keeping up with series. I’m always several books behind.
Same, obviously lol
This is such a great list! And I love the post idea, even if the topic title is a bit clunky lol. Nearly all of these are also on my TBR too and I haven’t start the series yet either! Although I have read all the books in the Garber series so far, and it’s really enjoyable. I hope you love all of these when you get around to reading them!
The title was SO HARD hahaha I’m glad Garber’s series was good for you!
Great idea, I always enjoy seeing what others come up with for freebie weeks. Keeping up with series can be so difficult – quite often I never finish. Good luck with your rather ambitious list!
I don’t even remember the last series I finished hahah I’m always behind!
I am behind on all of these series too bwahaha. I was actually thinking about The Way I Used to Be, I want to read the new one because I remember liking the first one, but that is ALL I remember heh. Also, I thought I had read The Darkening but apparently I did not so… yep, just as behind as you 😂
Yeah, same. I remember the feeling of enjoying it but dont remember a lot about it lol
I haven’t read any of these series, it seems like there are so many books coming out at such a pace! I have The Inheritance Games on my TBR though, I think it was supposed to be a duology or trilogy but it seems like it’s getting more books now?
Yeah I think it’s onto its fourth. I’m drowning in all the books and series lol
Jennifer’s books sound SO interesting but I haven’t read them. I own a couple though so I least I can binge the first two or so when I finally do pick them up. 🙂
I started the first one a while back and was loving it! I don’t know why I haven’t finished it lol
