How do you kill a god?
As her father's chosen heir, eighteen-year-old Rasmira has trained her whole life to become a warrior and lead her village. But when her coming-of-age trial is sabotaged and she fails the test, her father banishes her to the monster-filled wilderness with an impossible quest: To win back her honor, she must kill the oppressive god who claims tribute from the villages each year—or die trying.
Alright, y’all, it’s another favorite of the year for me! This book was packed full of things I love, but you know I can’t not be a little nit-picky here and there. So, let’s just dive right in.
For starters, Warrior of the Wild really just throws you into the story. It’s a short book and a standalone, so there really isn’t any time to waste on fluff. This is both a blessing and a curse for me. On one hand, it’s fast-paced and gets to the point. Sometimes a book like that is refreshing from all of the lengthy fantasy trilogies/series out there. However, I did have a hard time imagining the world itself – mainly the plants and creatures that Rasmira encounters. Mostly, though, the fast-paced nature of this one was on point and exactly what I needed.
As for the main character, Rasmira is a badass. I’ll admit, at times she infuriated me, but she’s such an empowering and persistent person that I can’t help but ignore some of those more annoying moments. What I loved most is the relationship development between her, Soren, and Iric (which was something I was missing in Sorcery of Thorns). More than one-third of the novel is spent developing their relationship – I absolutely adored it. I would have been happy if the book was longer and spent even more time. There was witty banter, arguing, and kindness that just exuded friendship.
That is honestly what I took away from this book. I’m sure the intention was supposed to be a focus on Rasmira and how she overcame her issues and persevered – but what was really the star of this book was the friendship (it does have a good slow-burn romance, don’t worry). I think why that stood out for me is because I found the story itself incredibly predictable. Whenever I read a book, I always take notes in my notebook along the way … three bullet points in and I had already guessed what the end would be. So, without great relationships, I don’t know how much I would have loved this one.
Overall, this book was fantastic! It’s a quick and easy read with adventure, friendships, romance, and a badass main character. I highly recommend this one, especially if you like Sky in the Deep or other Viking stories.

Hahaha yayyyy! I hope you like it !
I’m here for the great relationships!!! I agree though, sometimes the book can be predictable/sometimes “meh” but the characters make it up for it. Anyway, I’m intrigued and might read another Tricia Levenseller book because of this review.
Aw well if you do, I hope you like it!
